John Garvey has been a horse trainer and riding instructor for 40 plus years. He successfully completed the American Riding Instruction Certification Program for beginner through intermediate Mounted Patrol Training Officer and the ARICP Instructor, beginner through advanced for hunt seat. He also studied and completed the Riding for the Handicapped Teacher Training course. He has extensive experience in training horses for driving, as well as riding and jumping.
John Garvey will use a lifetime of equine experiences and natural horsemanship fundamentals to work with you to improve your communication techniques with your horse. As quoted from one of John´s clients, “He is a gifted teacher with the ability to read both the rider and the horse simultaneously.”
Although John specializes in hunt seat equitation on the flat and over fences, he is a qualified instructor in all riding disciplines. He also offers mounted patrol training and desensitization clinics. He has attended the Mounted Patrol Certification Academy with Alpha & Omega and was a supervisor and trainer/instructor for its national mounted patrol company.
In his youth, John received a B.A. degree in speech and communication from Columbia College. He was successfully pursuing a career in broadcasting when he changed his career to pursue his true passion, working with horses. His degree in communications enhanced his skills as an instructor. As noted by one of his students, “John is an excellent communicator, having the ability to connect with people with differing skill levels, goals and backgrounds.”
